What a game!!! It was great being there in person and seeing the seniors that made this last few years of Mizzou football great. Sure the game was a lot like a girl I used to make out with in Dunkin Donuts…it wasn’t pretty. Living in West damn Texas, so making it to San Antonio was easy. It was a blessing in disguise, at least for me, that we got beat by OU. If we win Mizzou is playing in San Diego instead of OSU and me and the Mrs. would have not been able to go. I will give ya’ll the run down from the game from a fan there…

I arrived there about 2 hours before kickoff and came across several fans grilling out, all were drinking of course. All the Mizzou tailgaters were in one “C”. Many traveled from all over Missouri to come support their beloved Mizzou. Here we have Dustin behind the grill doing his thing. The down fall of our fans was that stayed spread out and didn’t have any comradely with other fans.

Across the way was a sea of purple. I have not seen that much purple on any one person since I saw Big Head dressed up before the Prince concert… Purple Rain….Purple Rain…They were all in lot “B”. Let me say that Northwestern fans were great which is a big surprise to me since that most of them ate Cubs fans and that automatically makes them arrogant assholes. They had that lot on lock down and had the sweet tunes blaring and were have a good ol’ time. I also ensured them that these pictures would not end up on the internet.

While taking pictures of fans, shaking hands, and kissing babies I came across some hot chicks. After some laughs and threats of a restraining order against me they said that they were part of the Chase Daniel family. The tall hottie girl with the sun glasses on is Chase’s sister Lindsey and the cute little brunette with the white jersey is Chase’s girlfriend Blaire…well done sir!
Once we got in the Alamo Dome our seats were just four rows up from the end zone. This is good and bad. It was sweet seeing the action close up but when action was on the other side it was harder to see then the man in the sun. I’ve been looking for years and now I have seizures. Next to me was this nice family pulling from Mizzou who’s oldest daughter just graduated from there last year. Next to the Mrs. was this really drunk and annoying Texas fan. From living in Texas for the last three years I can tell you this is how they all are. They do not rub in the past like OU fans but they are loud and yell out stupid things that have nothing to do with the game.
Right out the gate it was obvious that Northwestern was not going to kick it to Maclin. These pussycats were afraid. Watching Chase was hard to do. He played like a JV quarterback in high school. Sure the first pic was not his fault since it looked like a busted rout with two Mizzou players running in the same place and it was tipped to a Northwestern safety. But the next pic, it was as if he told the DB out of the huddle, it’s going to #84.
Once Northwestern was up 10-3 on us it looked like we were in for a long game of disappointment. But our seldom seen defense showed up and made them put the ball to Maclin. Watching #9 torch them for a 75 yard return was a thing of beauty. It was like watching Brad Smith run around again. I don’t expect him to be back next year and honestly I would not be mad or blame him if he left early. He showed that he is one of the elite Wide Outs and would be great playing on Sundays. Since he runs faster then light I snapped the pic when he first broke open but by the time the picture took he was already celebrating.
By this time its half time and the Alamo Bowl invited this dance group that I call the Jail Bait crew. These girls were probably around 13-17 years of age also it seemed like they also invited every high school band from San Antonio to Missouri. They were coming on to the field next to us and would have gone smoothly but the drunken Texan was standing up in the isle and would not let them pass by. “Don’t you see me standing here? Go that way punks.” So now they all had to fit into one isle instead of two. The whole time in the first half he kept yelling, “Throw it to #45…God damn that’s a big boy!”
Chase Daniel must have heard him and he started using Coffman. Every time he was in there it was a miss match. Northwestern was helpless against the man beast named Coffman. Props to our D line who showed some life and gave Mizzou the opportunity to win the game. They showed up when we needed them the most. With two minutes and some change the always consistent Wolfert hit a 37 yard field goal. Once again our D had to hold Northwestern and not give up anything big. Now it’s 3 and three and William Moore came up big and broke up a pass attempt that would have given them a first down. Mizzou now has the ball and with the help of a 15 yard face mask penalty we were set up for a 44 yard field goal where Wolfert had only missed once or twice all year. Game set match, Mizzou wins!!!!wait… Wide right, what just happened? This is unbelievable.
In overtime Mizzou came out motivated, almost like they were tired of playing with these guys. After three straight running plays it was great to see Daniel hit Maclin in the end zone for the go ahead score. Now it is Northwestern’s turn. They made it to Mizzou’s 9 yard line and it’s first and goal. The defense got their Lou Ferrigno on and Sean Weatherspoon and William Moore sacked the quarter back and caused a fumble where Northwestern recovered on out 31. After a hail marry to the end zone knocked down by none other than Moore again this time you can open up the Victory Whisky and paint San Antonio Black and Gold. We are the Alamo Bowl winners.

Northwestern played a great game. My hats off to their team and their fans. They were outnumbered almost 2:1 and yet they were a lot louder then Mizzou fans. Well done Northwestern and good luck next year, I would not mind it one bit to see you become Big 10 champs. As far as Mizzou, what does the next year hold? Will we fall back into classic Mizzou football and hope for a bowl game or will the next generation and get the same respect that this crew demanded. So I ended the night at Denny's where I tried to get one of the stuffed Three Wise Men from the claw game. After two tries It still lays there and it's future is just as uncertain as Mizzou next year.
